The IBS Group (IBS) is a leading IT solutions provider
to the global Travel, Transportation and Logistics (TTL)
industry. A specialist in the domain, IBS is SEI
CMM Level-5 assessed, ISO 9001:2000 and TickIT certified,
and operates software production and competence development
centres at Trivandrum and Cochin in India. IBS
offers a range of software products that manage mission-critical
operations of major airlines, airports, oil and gas
companies and seaports world-wide. Services offered
by IBS include software development, business and technology
consulting, turnkey solutions, customer support services
and application maintenance.
Founded in 1997, IBS started business operations by
providing turnkey solutions addressing specific areas
of airline operations. Over time this included flight
operations/scheduling, passenger reservations, departure
control, airport resource management, airport ground
handling, air cargo terminal handling, ULD management,
airline revenue accounting, mail tracking, port management,
voyage management, helicopter scheduling and personnel
tracking for a range of clients.
In 2002 IBS acquired TopAir, a versatile and fully
integrated flight management solution, from EDS, as
part of a strategic initiative to develop a complete
operational solution that would cater to the varying
needs of small and medium-sized scheduled/charter airlines.
This product is currently used by ten airlines, all
operating out of Europe.
In September 2003, IBS acquired Avient Technologies,
a business unit within Honeywell International. The
products thus acquired further expanded IBS' portfolio
of offerings to the air transportation industry. Avient
Solutions is IBS' global centre of excellence for flight
operations and provides integrated solutions and services
for airline/airport operations. IDAHO an advanced airport
management system is currently operational at London's
Heathrow and Gatwick, two of the world's busiest airports.
IDAHO in an enhanced form has recently been chosen by
the British Airports Authority for managing airport
operations at Heathrow's new Terminal 5.
The technology and business domain competence acquired
in the last eight years, has resulted in IBS taking
the initiative to develop two next-generation products,
both meant to replace more expensive and less flexible
legacy systems currently in use in the air transportation
industry. These new-generation products (among a number
of other products offered by IBS) are:
" aiRES, (formerly known as iRes) a comprehensive
integrated Passenger Services System being developed
in business collaboration with Cendant TDS. IBS has
recently announced that WestJet, the No. 2 Canadian
airline, has entered into a multi-year agreement for
the implementation of aiRES.
" iCargo, an airline Cargo Management System that
supports the needs of the entire cargo/logistics chain
from shipper to consignee. This product will include
industry best practices and comprehensive functionality,
validated by a Core Group of Influence (CGI), consisting
of Air New Zealand Cargo, South African Airways Cargo,
Gulf Air and Qantas Freight. The first release of iCargo
is slated for December 2005.
Yet another major initiative by IBS is the development
of iLogistics, a first of its kind, state-of-the-art
solution designed to manage and optimise the upstream
logistics operations of oil and gas companies. This
product also enables like-minded companies to share
their logistics resources. Shell International Exploration
and Production (SIEP) has entered into a long-term agreement
with IBS for the implementation of iLogistics in most
of its operating companies world-wide. The other major
products of IBS include SmartCargo, iFly, iPort, iMacs,
CTS, MCS and RSMS.
The clientele of IBS includes major corporations like
Shell International, BP, Orbitz, Emirates, Cathay, Qantas,
Swiss, WestJet, Air Canada, Qatar Airways, SITA, EDS,
Heathrow & Gatwick Airports, Sharjah Port, and DNATA.
To meet IBS' aggressive growth targets, IBS has ramped
up operations with the opening of a centre at Cochin,
India. This centre, IBS' sixth in the world and second
in India, was formally inaugurated in October 2005 by
Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala. IBS and its
group companies operate out of USA (Atlanta), Europe
(London/Zurich), Middle East (Dubai), Asia-Pacific (Sydney)
and India (Trivandrum and Cochin). More information
