Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, on Monday, laid the foundation for Athulya, an information technology (IT) building complex, and a budget guesthouse at Infopark.

Mr. Achuthanandan said the second phase development of Infopark on 64 hectares of land had been planned with the objective of creating another 50,000 jobs.

He said efforts were being made to resolve the issues hampering the progress of the SmartCity Kochi project and to launch the work without further delay. He said the State government aimed at promoting a decentralised IT development. As part of that, IT parks were being set up in various districts. Master plans for the proposed IT parks in Cherthala and Ambalappuzha in Alappuzha district had been completed and construction would begin shortly. Infrastructure development had been started for the park at Koratty in Thrissur district.

He said initial works were being completed for setting up a Cyber Park in Kozhikode modelled on Technopark and Infopark. Construction of IT parks at Eramam in Kannur district and Cheemany in Kasargod district under the Cyber Park would start this year.

He said that 37 hectares of land would be developed as part of the third phase expansion of Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram, as the existing space had been fully utilised. Mr. Achuthanandan termed the proposed Technocity project the fourth phase expansion of the Technopark.

This would come up on 180 hectares of land along the national highway.

Construction of an electrical sub-station for the project was under way. Fisheries and Registration Minister S. Sarma presided. Delivering the welcome address, IT Secretary Ajay Kumar said the State government was going ahead with investment proposals of Rs.1,500 crore in the IT sector in the next three years.
