Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, on Monday, laid
the foundation for Athulya, an information technology
(IT) building complex, and a budget guesthouse at Infopark.
Mr. Achuthanandan said the second phase development
of Infopark on 64 hectares of land had been planned
with the objective of creating another 50,000 jobs.
He said efforts were being made to resolve the issues
hampering the progress of the SmartCity Kochi project
and to launch the work without further delay. He said
the State government aimed at promoting a decentralised
IT development. As part of that, IT parks were being
set up in various districts. Master plans for the proposed
IT parks in Cherthala and Ambalappuzha in Alappuzha
district had been completed and construction would begin
shortly. Infrastructure development had been started
for the park at Koratty in Thrissur district.
He said initial works were being completed for setting
up a Cyber Park in Kozhikode modelled on Technopark
and Infopark. Construction of IT parks at Eramam in
Kannur district and Cheemany in Kasargod district under
the Cyber Park would start this year.
He said that 37 hectares of land would be developed
as part of the third phase expansion of Technopark in
Thiruvananthapuram, as the existing space had been fully
utilised. Mr. Achuthanandan termed the proposed Technocity
project the fourth phase expansion of the Technopark.
This would come up on 180 hectares of land along the
national highway.
Construction of an electrical sub-station for the project
was under way. Fisheries and Registration Minister S.
Sarma presided. Delivering the welcome address, IT Secretary
Ajay Kumar said the State government was going ahead
with investment proposals of Rs.1,500 crore in the IT
sector in the next three years.
