BANGALORE: Kerala is expecting an investment of over
$2 billion for setting up infrastructure in the IT-ITES
sector in the next couple of years. This new investment
will basically be for establishing IT parks —
both government and private projects.
Speaking to ET, KR Jyothilal, special secretary, Kerala
government said: “Total investment made so far for
the two IT parks — Technopark and Infopark in Thiruvananthapuram
and Kochi respectively amounts to Rs 3,000 crore. We are
now planning to expand these and set up a new 507-acre
Technocity in Thiruvananthapuram, together for which we
will see investment of Rs 6,000 crore. Also on the cards
are PPP projects like Smart City, Shobha Hi-tech City
and CIAL IT Park. So the total proposed investment in
the state will be over $2 billion in the next two years.”
The Kerala government is holding roadshows in different
Indian cities as part of a campaign to attract investment
by IT-ITeS companies. The first is being held in Bangalore.
Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan said: “We
want to transform Kerala into a knowledge destination.”
