Kochi at 2009
Kochi currently has no malls; however, by 2009, the city
is expected to have 6 malls covering a built-up area of
1.60 million sq ft, according to Cushman & Wakefield.
Malls like Forum (expected to have 1 million+ sq ft of
space), Lulu Mall, Aerens Gold Souk, Abad Mall, Metro
One, Mall O, The Summit (to be spread over 12 floors)
and Kalyan Mall are being planned. There have been reports
that DLF too is looking at a mall-cum-hotel project in
the city, near Marine Drive.
Wipro to buy Singapore's Unza for Rs 1,000 crore
Azim
Premji-led Wipro Ltd said it will acquire 100 per cent
stake in Singapore-based Unza Holdings Ltd in an all
cash deal worth Rs 1,010.2 crore (Rs 10.102 billion
or $246 million). Wipro has entered into definitive
agreement for acquisition of 100 per cent stake in Unza
Holding, a Fast Moving Consumer Goods company with revenues
of Rs 623.3 crore (Rs 6.233 billion) in the year ended
April 30, the company said in a communique to the Bombay
Stock Exchange.
Infosys to acquire Capgemini
Going
by what's been heard on European trading floors, Infosys
is targeting Capgemini as potential buyout and analysts
are excited about synergies.
Post buyout synergies, Infosys can compete for large
deals in consulting where margins are attractive and
can improve its rankings to among Top Fives after IBM,
Accenture and EDS.
Microsoft May Acquire Yahoo for $50 Billion
Microsoft and Yahoo have spoken in the past, but Google
has piled on the pressure with the DoubleClick deal and
now Microsoft has asked Yahoo to re-enter talks about
the acquisition, says the NYPost. The price estimate,
meanwhile, comes from Wall Street analysts.
Smartcity Agreement Signed!
The
much-awaited Rs.15 billion ($350 million)-Smart City project
between the Kerala government and Dubai Internet City
(DIC), aimed to put Kerala on the global IT map, was inked
here Sunday.
The project was signed Sunday, nearly three years after it was first
mooted. It is different from the one proposed by the previous Oommen
Chandy government and comes a few days before Chief Minister V.S.
Achuthanandan completes his first year in office.
Smart City, Kochi in to reality
The development is seen as a moral victory for Achuthanandan
as he had earlier opposed the terms for the project worked
out by the then the Congress-led UDF government - a stance
which was seen as anti-development.
Achuthanandan also insisted that Infopark would not
be handed over to it and demanded an assurance for creation
of 90,000 jobs. More importantly, he also maintained
DIC would have no say about other IT ventures that might
come up in Kochi.
Kerala Govt. signed SmartCity deal
The agreement was inked by Ahmad Bi Byat, executive chairman
of Tecom Investment, and Lizzie Jacob, chief secretary
of Kerala. Smart City, to be set up in Kochi, is a joint
venture company of Tecom Investments and Sama Dubai.
Top officials of DIC arrived in a charter flight around 1 p.m. and drove straight to the state-owned Mascot Hotel to sign the agreement. They will leave in the evening.
Dubai businessman swings Smart City project towards Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 7 (IANS) Talks on the proposed
Rs.15 billion ($340 million) Smart City project at Kochi
has reached final stages after a team from Dubai met Chief
Minister V.S. Achuthanandan Wednesday along with a Dubai-based
Keralite businessman.
