SmartCity Dubai to lose CFO

SmartCity in Dubai is set to lose its executive director for corporate finance Teddy Maroun.Mr Maroun has held the position for a year but his contract is not being renewed for 2010. SmartCity Dubai said Mr Maroun left the company in a voluntary and planned manner and has been succeeded by a new executive director as planned.It has been a frustrating year for SmartCity in many ways. SmartCity talks to continue

The director board meeting of the company setting up the SmartCity Kochi project met here today, without taking any major decision on the issues that have delayed the project. Minister S Sharma said here that the discussions today were part of a regular director board meeting. The key point of contention is the demand of the Dubai-based Technology and Media Free Zone Authority (Tecom), which is the state government’s partner in the project, to have free hold status over 12% of the land allotted for the project.More..

Central nod for SEZ at Cherthala

The Union Government has handed over a clearance letter to the State Government for setting up a multi-product Special Economic Zone at Pallippuram, adjacent to the Cherthala Infopark, in Alappuzha.The new SEZ would be set up as a unit of the Cochin Special Economic Zone (CSEZ) except that it would be bigger compared to CSEZ which has only 103 acres of land. The State Government had submitted a proposal to the Union Government for setting up a SEZ in the 125 acres of land owned by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), two years ago. The CSEZ authorities had also submitted a report on the project to the Union Commerce Ministry in 2008. But, the Centre had not shown much interest in it at the beginning. More..
 Infopark to provide 50,000 jobs
Once completed by the year 2011, the Infopark at Kochi will offer a low cost plug, play the BPO part and provide over 50,000 jobs in the IT/ITES sector. Developed over 160 acres of land at the Kunnathunadu and Puthencuruz village near Kochi, the Infopark will also to promote eco-tourism. Laying the foundation stone for the Infopark, Kerala Chief Minister V S Achutanandan said: ‘The Infopark will be operational by 2011 for which the allocation funds have already been allotted. Once complete, the Infopark will be able to generate 50,000 jobs in the IT sector.’  More..

The emirate of Sharjah has signed a deal with Government of Kerala to set up a science and technology innovation centre at Infopark Kochi to provide a platform for small- and medium-sized enterprises to flourish. Cyber City project Trapped in red tape

The fate of the much hyped Cyber City project like the Smart City project is hanging in the balance. Opposition from various constituents of the LDF is the main hurdle before the project which promised to generate 60,000 direct and 1,50,000 indirect jobs. Irregularities in land deals were the first obstacle. Later the court upheld the deals in which HMT land was sold to Housing Development Infrastructure Ltd (HDIL), a subsidiary of Bluestar Realtors. Kollam Technopark to get Rs.49 crore from Nabard

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned Rs.49.53 crore for the development of the Kollam Technopark, an IT park coming up in Kollam, Kerala.
